Before your first appointment
Your family physician or nurse practitioner has sent us a referral. Our office telephones you once it has been triaged, so there is nothing you need to do until you hear from us.
What to bring
Your Saskatchewan health card, a current list of your medications including doses, and any recent test results your family physician has given you. A pharmacy can print the medication list for you. If it helps you remember what was discussed, bring a family member or friend.
What happens in the appointment
A first consultation usually takes forty to sixty minutes. The physician reviews your history, examines you, and explains what comes next: that may be tests, a follow-up appointment, or a letter back to your family physician. You will not be asked to make decisions on the spot.
Internal medicine residents and medical students rotate through the suite, and you may be asked whether a learner can sit in on the consultation. Declining changes nothing about the care you receive.
If you cannot attend
Call 306-518-9081 as early as you can, so the appointment can be offered to another patient. If you have not yet been referred, ask your family physician or nurse practitioner to send one; we cannot book an appointment without a referral.
For chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or fainting, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than waiting for an appointment.
